Both teams started out carefully. Crefeld had really gotten better during the tournament and ONO Atlétic had an easy start with two victories and yesterday’s win against Bloemendaal. The Spanish were stronger on the field and had more opportunities. Neither team got a penalty corner and that was mostly thanks to the excellent defensive work done by both teams.
After the break, both teams began to work harder. They tried to attack more often but this didn’t result in chances worth mentioning. Again, the Spanish were stronger and earned more penalty corners. But all of them were blocked by incredible goalkeeper Schulte.
After blocking another penalty corner, Timo Wess took the ball. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Benjamin Weiss coming towards him, didn’t hesitate for a second and passed him the ball using his backhand. The ball landed behind him, but he managed to catch it anyway and hit it behind goalkeeper Castillano. With only three minutes left on the clock, nothing else could go wrong and it didn’t. ONO Atlétic was beaten in the final minutes by the German Crefelder team and had to be satisfied with silver. Therefore, Crefeld is the winner of the very last Europe Cup in its current form.
