Right to Play

Creating a healthier and safer world for children through the power of sport and play

The board of HC Bloemendaal has decided to make Right to Play its designated charity during the ECCC07.

Right to Play is an international, humanitarian organization supported by volunteers and top athletes. Their goal is to provide all children with sports and games. Sports and games contribute to the development of physical, social, and emotional capacities in small children, youth, and adults in the world’s most disadvantaged communities. Programmes are set up in refugee camps, at projects with former child combatants, and for children orphaned by AIDS.

Our goal is to collect a considerable amount of money for Right to Play. Moreover, we will try to generate a lot of publicity for Right to Play, because the more people who know about Right to Play and what the organization stands for, the more children who need our support so badly will be helped.

During the ECCC07  HC Bloemendaal will support Right to Play's projects in Pakistan. Sixty percent of the 4 million Afghan refugees living in this country are children. In the cities of Peshewar and Quetta there are 18 refugee schools where 8,500 Pakistan and Afghan children participate together in Right to Play sport- and game activities organized and supervised by 40 local coaches and teachers.

Provisionally, the programme will be as follows:

Right to Play Stand during the ECCC07

In the Promotion Village there will be a Right to Play stand where all the information about the organization and its activities can be obtained. Moreover,
both individuals and businesses can register here as donor of the organization.
Athlete Ambassadors who have visited projects locally will be present and there will be collecting-boxes for cash money.

Entrance-Fee
The board of HC Bloemendaal has decided to reserve part of the revenues of the entrance tickets for Right to Play.

Actions BY Youth
From March 2007 onwards, all youth teams will be challenged to raise as much money and to generate as much publicity as possible.
They will receive information packages from their coaches. An expert jury will decide which team has come up with the the best, the most original, and the most worthwhile activities. During the ECCC07 the most outstanding activities will be exhibited in the Right to Play stand and the winning team will receive an original prize.

Small Children
The youngest members of  “Hockeyclub Bloemendaal” will be asked to decorate the Promo-village with small flags and drawings, and there will be a balloon-game before the opening match of  the first men’s team.

Veterans, Senior Members, and Sponsors
Of course we will not forget the veterans, senior members, and sponsors. For the time being their main task is to support the activities of our youth.

The programme of Right to Play is led by Agaath and Floris Jan Bovelander. Floris Jan is an Athlete Ambassador of Right to Play.
